The other day I was pretending to nap in our bed so Maddy would nap also. Instead of sleeping Maddy reached over and gave me several big kisses on the cheek.
When Maddy was younger, I would complain how she never cuddled or wanted to be held. Now we hear all the time, "Hold you, hold you" when she wants to be picked up or snuggled with. I assume this phrase comes from us asking her, "Do you want me to hold you?"
Just now Elmo was on TV. He always kisses a baby at one point of the show by saying, "Kiss, kiss baby." Maddy just said, "Kiss, kiss, Daddy!"
There are days that living with a 2 year-old is tough, but these sweet moments are worth it!

Tennessee trip
Here is a little more of the fun we had in Knoxville and at the cabin in Townsend. The weather cooled off for us a little and we loved being outside as much as possible.
We didn't plan on playing in the Market Square fountains, but Maddy did as soon as she saw them. We had a change of clothes handy and she loved the splashing followed by ice cream.
Oh Nana and Papaw...they love orange, can you tell?
Poppie got down to the river for the first time in about 10 years. These are just a few of his many adoring fans.
Maddy loved playing in the sand, dirt, and rocks at the river. She squirted water guns and dug in the sand between snack and sunscreen breaks.
Adam got Maddy a chair for the river at her birthday party. She loved sitting in the river and throwing rocks. For a while I was able to get her to say, "ice cream," to smile. She said it here, but the smile didn't quite follow her.

Princess Party!

We continued the 2nd birthday celebration in Texas with a princess party at Granny and Grandad's house in Fort Worth. Ruby was in charge of decorations and even made Maddy a princess wand fit for a queen. The princess cake was my 3rd cake attempt in one week. It was perfect, but I think I have found a new hobby that might save us some cash in the long run on birthday cakes!
Maddy has a sty on her eyelid in this shot and is still recovering from it several weeks later. Cari made her this adorable dress and matching bow. Isn't she so crafty?!
With great-grandparents... Thank you so much Granny and Grandad for letting us have a party at your home! We loved every minute of it!

Elmo Party

We were in Knoxville for the 4th of July and celebrated Maddy's birthday with the Baker clan at Nana and Papaw's house. Vicki found cute Elmo things to decorate and we made an Elmo cake. The 2nd cake didn't turn out as great as Elmo, but everyone ate it just the same. Maddy loved all of her presents, especially her princess camera. She tells everyone, "Stop, no moving," before she takes the picture. Gosh, I don't know where she gets that?

This was the only family shot we got. Not great, but can you see how much she loves her camera. Thanks Abbey and Morgan!
Our nieces fed Maddy chips to keep her happy. She's learning fast who to go to for the good stuff. Definitely not Mama!
We tried to recreate a family picture they had of three other kiddos in this wagon. Maddy was really excited to hold Rayna (far left), but Rayna was not so excited. Bella (far right) was perfectly content being posed and propped up any way we wanted. The funniest part was the video Nana took of all the moms singing "If You're Happy and You Know It..." to get everyone to smile. I'll post it later when I find it.

Papaw got Logan and Adam's old tricycle out. Maddy rolled down the driveway and then he would drag her back up. They did this over and over again until the party started.

Pura Vida - Day 6
It's quittin' time here in Costa Rica. Well, not actually. It's 4:30 AM and for some reason, I can not sleep at all. Maybe it's the anticipation of our high hopes of waking up 40 highschoolers at 5:30, maybe it's because I fell asleep in my contacts (bad idea), maybe it's because I'm excited for the day. Who knows? All I know is we get to board a bus in a few hours for a four-hour trek to the beach. This short excursion is coming well-deserved for students that have worked tremendously hard over the past week. We even threw in an extra half day of work and they complained it wasn't long enough.
Luckily, I'm getting sleepy again so I might try to rest before the wake-up call arrives. Here are just a few random pictures from the week so far.

Tico Time
It's been a beautiful three days so far in Costa Rica. Logan and I matched today and didn't even plan it. He was kind enough to smile for a photo.
Here are a few pictures that are on the more "artsy" side (maybe) instead of kids' faces that you probably don't know. The Lord has definitely been challenging many of the hearts with us and has continued to provide amazing weather and opportunities to bless others through our service.
Ok, this one isn't so artsy, but it's pretty darn funny!
I got to read these verses this morning and was in awe of God's amazing promises. Thanks be to God for this amazing gift!

Logan's birthday
Logan's birthday was a few weeks ago (ok, almost a month ago!) and we had a blast. I surprised him with a limo ride to the SA Missions game. That's right, we pulled up to the minor league game in style. Our nice drive, Larry, took this shot of us, but didn't really take our jokes well.
It was dollar night at the game and we tried to see if the hot dogs were any better on dollar night than the last time we went. Sad to say, they are not.
Later that week we celebrated with Scott and Jane in Fort Worth with Fuzzy's and cakeballs from Jane! And then we had another celebration with the family for Dad and Logan's birthdays.

Great Women
We celebrated the life of three GREAT ladies this year. They were each beautiful, timeless, gracious, and loved their Savior. Thank you for loving us and loving your great-great-great niece, great-granddaughter, and great-great-granddaughter. I know she will miss knowing you, but we are grateful for the time we had with each of you.

Pura Vida
Life in Costa Rica seems like ages ago. This is obviously since I haven't blogged in forever. Things changed after that trip. Although the sun stayed out longer, it felt like the hours went by faster and time slipped away from us. Especially blogging and computer time for this one.
So at last, here is a short and sweet synopsis of our Costa Rica trip.
Day 1...we traveled to San Jose, CR and then took a short bus ride to Carrillos just outside the San Jose. We were greeted by Charlie Strong and his fabulous staff at Strong Missions just in time for an amazing dinner and our first night in CR.
Day 2...we began working on the wall you see below in these pictures. Strong Missions is helping the community build a small park. Most open spaces are soccer fields in Carrillos so they are wanting a space for children to play and families to gather. We spent most of our time here working on the wall and will return working on the same project in July.
Day 3...after working on the wall again we went to a community pool with the group. This place was amazing. The view was incredible and we had the Olympic-sized pool all to ourselves. I can't wait to go back and take the Sr. high students.
Day 4...More work on the wall and then a trip to a Methodist church in town. It was a large screened in church full of students singing praise songs and women raising their hands to Jesus. A Gloria a Dios! Strong Missions is starting a new project with this church that we will hopefully get to work on in July. They are hoping to help them build an office and classroom space, I believe.
Day 5...We traveled through San Jose to the 8th district of Los Guillos. At this church we met Pastor Edgar and his amazing family. His work in Los Guillos helps feed children, educate women, train workers, build families, and teach anyone that will listen about the word of God...truly an amazing man! Here, we got to help feed the children and learned more about Pastor Edgar's work.
Day 6...After arriving in Cauhita late in the evening, we woke up early to start our adventure through the rain forest to go zip lining. The journey was full of some scary car rides through the jungle, but we had a blast and are planning to go back again when we return.
Day 7...we waited in a VERY LONG LINE to get to the airport and just barely made our flight back to Houston.
